Raising a Rabbit

Everybody loves the sight of little rabbit jumping here and there. I too was long attracted to this adorable little creature that I convinced my mom to let me buy it. It was a struggle, since my mom doubted my ability to take care of the rabbit. Well, I had to admit that it was my first time raising one since my puppy escaped the last time.

Fortunately, my mom finally gave me her approval. Yeah! Off we went to the open field near the sport center, where the rabbits were sold. I chose two rabbits, the grey one and the blond one. As the rabbits were ready in the iron cage, I was also ready on the back seat of the motorcycle while holding the iron cage. Then, my mom started driving us home.

It was just a five minutes drive, when I felt something wet and hot running through my thigh. I immediately knew that it was coming from the iron cage above my thigh. I screamed, "Mom, one of the rabbit is peeing!" My mom glanced from the rear-view mirror and said, "Lift the cage, do not let the it wet your pants or thigh". So, all the way home I held the iron cage beside me (instead of holding it above my thigh).

Arriving home, I decided to place the iron cage at the back terrace. I thought of several good names to give to these rabbits. Inspired by my own name, I decided to name them Megi for the blond one and Mogi for the grey one. After several days, my uncle help building the hutch that would be placed in the backyard. But, sometimes it was raining hard that Megi and Mogi could not play around. Megi especially, was pretty active. She (I honestly forgot which was male and which was female, but let's assume Megi was female) was the cutest one and she loved to jump around the yard. While, Mogi was the fat one and he did not really move around.

I loved to feed them with carrots and water spinach. It was delightful to see the way they munch in quick speed. So, this was how it felt like to see rabbits eating. It was so funny😂. But, I had to restrain from feeding them too much, since they would die from eating too much. I did not want thaaat!

Sadly, about a month later, Mogi died. Both my mom and I actually noticed from the very beginning that Mogi was sick. But I insisted on bringing him home. I also noticed how he was so weak during days in the hutch. It was the first time seeing a rabbit dying, nor could I believe it. His body was not moving and quiet as if he was an empty shell. His eyes were also closed. It was heartbreaking to see him like that. We decided to bury him in the yard and gave him our prayer.

The next few days, Megi made achievement by successfully jumping across the small drain. All of us gave her big applause and laughed at her adorable behavior. But this happiness also did not last. The next day morning, I could not find Megi anywhere! She just disappeared! My mom told me to calmly look for Megi around the house. We scanned the house one more time, but we got nothing. My mom who noticed the black cat standing above the wall while licking around its mouth, came to the conclusion that Megi might have been eaten by the black cat. The black cat also wandered around the hutch when Megi was still alive.

'Oh no! This is the worst!' I thought. I absolutely had no talent nor luck in raising animals. Since then, I refrain myself from raising pet. Even though I always scream, "Buuuunny!" whenever the car passed by some rabbit merchant.
